To open an account with Science Card, follow these simple steps using our mobile app:

Download the Science Card App: Start by downloading our mobile app on your Android device or iPhone. You can find the app on the Google Play Store here and on the Apple App Store here.

Provide Information: After downloading the app, open it and follow the on-screen instructions. You'll need to enter the following information:

Your full name
Email address
Phone number
Choose a PIN code

Verify Your Identity: As part of our security measures, we require you to verify your identity. You'll be prompted to upload an identity document, such as your passport, and to take a selfie.

Account Review Update:Once you've completed the steps above, our team will review your information. We aim to approve your account within a few minutes. However, it's important to note that while we strive to facilitate account approval for eligible applicants, all accounts are approved subject to our account conditions, opening criteria, and rules. In certain cases, if any details are missing or require clarification, we'll reach out to you for further information.

Science Card is available to people who are 18 years old and above.

Once both of Science Card’s e-money current account types - Standard and Fusion accounts - are officially launched, you will have the flexibility to switch between different account types based on your requirements. We want to ensure that you have complete control over your Science Card experience.

Once Science Card’s e-money current accounts go live, we will send a notification to our waitlist members, with information on how to open an account and start making an impact through your everyday spending.

While early access is an exclusive benefit for Science Card’s waitlist members, if you miss the early access window, don't worry. Science Card offers two impactful account types:

Science Card Standard: This free-to-open account allows you to support scientific research through your spending.

Science Card Fusion: Coming soon - for £19.90 per month, Fusion customers can actively engage in funding scientific research and benefit from the intellectual property of sponsored projects.

Transparency is one of our core values. There are no hidden fees payable by you when using Science Card. We believe in providing clear and upfront information about any applicable charges, ensuring you have full visibility into your financial contributions. Science Card can be used for all your online shopping needs, including subscriptions for various services. Your purchases contribute to research projects, making your everyday transactions more meaningful.

Should you choose to close your Science Card account, you can initiate the account closure process through the Science Card app. It's important to note that upon closing your account, even if the client relationship has been brief, we are obligated to retain your account information for a period of 7 years. This retention duration is in compliance with the  regulations under which we operate.

The Fusion account, accessible for a nominal monthly subscription, paves the path for enhanced sponsorship of scientific research, unlocking the royalty potential of intellectual property.

The Fusion account offers a deeper engagement in research funding and potential benefits arising from intellectual property commercialisation, creating a more immersive experience for contributors.

With your Science Card, you can pay anywhere using your Mastercard debit card - in stores, online, and on your phone. Send and receive money transfers in the UK within seconds for seamless transactions.

At Science Card, we prioritise the security and privacy of our users. We employ robust security measures and adhere to strict data protection protocols to ensure that your personal information remains safe and confidential.

3DS (also known as ‘Mastercard SecureCode’, ‘Identity Check’ and ‘Verified by Visa’) is a standard which helps to reduce fraud and provide extra security to your online payments. Authentication is the process by which you identify yourself by sharing secure information that is available only to you. 3DS 2.0 is the latest version and provides a much smoother and safer process for you to authenticate your payments.

Authentication provides an additional layer of security for online transactions, making it harder for fraudsters to gain access to your payment details.

Yes, your card has been enrolled in Mastercard SecureCode (3DS) so that wherever you see the Mastercard SecureCode logo online, your card number will automatically be recognised during checkout. Your card provider is contacted during checkout to confirm your identity as the genuine cardholder.

You will receive a 6-digit One Time Password (OTP) for each online purchase you make at participating merchants. The OTP will be sent by SMS or by email to the mobile phone or email address which you have registered with your card provider. Simply key in the OTP on the authentication page displayed and press the ‘Submit’ button. The OTP will then be verified by your card provider and the transaction will be approved or declined.

The partially masked mobile number and email address will be displayed on the authentication page so that you can check that those details are correct. If the mobile number and email address are incorrect, cancel the transaction and either update your information on the portal or contact Customer Services by emailing help@science-card.com. Always keep the OTP secret and never share it with someone else 

If you ever suspect that a fraudulent purchase has been made using your card, contact Customer Services by calling [please complete] immediately. Ensure you never share the OTP code and only you input it into the app when making a purchase

Science Card allows you to explore scientific research projects in the fields of climate change, healthcare and quantum computing. You can make financial contributions to the projects of your choice by rounding up your payments whenever you spend, or by contributing directly to a project - and Science Card also contributes 10% of its profits to its sourced research projects.

Once a project has reached its funding target, the funds are directed to the project’s institution, enabling the research to start without delay.

Science Card customers are able to follow the progress of the research projects in the Science Card app as the project receives funding from their contributions, and the project itself gets underway.

With Science Card, you can explore various research projects and choose the ones you want to support. You can make financial contributions to the projects of your choice by rounding up your payments whenever you spend, or by contributing directly to a project - and Science Card also contributes 10% of its profits to its sourced research projects. Your financial contributions will make a real impact on these projects.
