A virtual debit card is a normal debit card, but one that only exists on your phone. It can be used for online and mobile payments just like a physical card. It's linked to your existing Science Card account and draws funds directly from it when you make a purchase. It is available in addition to your physical card - it is not a digital version of your physical card.
To get a virtual debit card from Science Card, simply sign up for an account. Once your account is verified, you can create a virtual debit card instantly in the app.
Our virtual debit cards are equipped with robust security features. They use encryption to protect your information and offer transaction alerts to keep you informed about any suspicious activity. You can also freeze or permanently block your card at any time for added security.
There is no fee for creating a virtual card, or for using it for payments. If you use your virtual card overseas, or you use it to pay in foreign currency, the exchange rate we apply will be the standard Mastercard exchange rate, with no fees or extra charges added on top. To see our current rate, please visit our Exchange rates page.
Your virtual debit card is linked to your Science Card account. Funds are automatically deducted from your account when you make a purchase using your virtual card.
Yes, you can set spending limits and restrictions on your virtual debit card through our mobile app. This feature allows you to have more control over your finances.
If you notice any suspicious activity on your virtual card, you can immediately freeze the card from our app or website, or permanently block it. Contact our customer support straight away to report any suspicious transactions.
We take the security of your personal information seriously. Our platform uses industry-standard encryption and security protocols to protect your data, ensuring it remains safe and confidential.
Your virtual debit card is only linked to your Science Card account. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact our customer support team.
Your virtual card does not have a PIN, and so cannot be used to withdraw cash from PIN-operated ATMs.
At Science Card, we prioritise the security and privacy of our users. We employ robust security measures and adhere to strict data protection protocols to ensure that your personal information remains safe and confidential.
3DS (also known as ‘Mastercard SecureCode’, ‘Identity Check’ and ‘Verified by Visa’) is a standard which helps to reduce fraud and provide extra security to your online payments. Authentication is the process by which you identify yourself by sharing secure information that is available only to you. 3DS 2.0 is the latest version and provides a much smoother and safer process for you to authenticate your payments.
Authentication provides an additional layer of security for online transactions, making it harder for fraudsters to gain access to your payment details.
Yes, your card has been enrolled in Mastercard SecureCode (3DS) so that wherever you see the Mastercard SecureCode logo online, your card number will automatically be recognised during checkout. Your card provider is contacted during checkout to confirm your identity as the genuine cardholder.
You will receive a 6-digit One Time Password (OTP) for each online purchase you make at participating merchants. The OTP will be sent by SMS or by email to the mobile phone or email address which you have registered with your card provider. Simply key in the OTP on the authentication page displayed and press the ‘Submit’ button. The OTP will then be verified by your card provider and the transaction will be approved or declined.
The partially masked mobile number and email address will be displayed on the authentication page so that you can check that those details are correct. If the mobile number and email address are incorrect, cancel the transaction and either update your information on the portal or contact Customer Services by emailing help@science-card.com. Always keep the OTP secret and never share it with someone else
If you ever suspect that a fraudulent purchase has been made using your card, contact Customer Services by calling [please complete] immediately. Ensure you never share the OTP code and only you input it into the app when making a purchase
